The response to the consultation on carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) business models summarises the responses received and government’s view on:

• potential CCUS business models for industry, power, carbon dioxide transport and storage and low carbon hydrogen productionaction needed to enable CCUS deployment in the 2020s, including a CCUS delivery action plan;
• objectives and principles for CCUS deployment

This response will be of interest to CCUS stakeholders, including investors and developers in potential CCUS projects, the energy sector and industry, including energy intensive industries.

Detail of feedback received

We received 72 responses to the consultation on CCUS business models. Around a quarter of responses were from large business, and a further quarter from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with the remainder being from special interest groups, trade associations, academics, private individuals and other interested parties.

Consultation description

This consultation seeks views on our emerging findings on potential business models for carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS). It covers:

• options on CCUS business models for industry, power, and carbon dioxide transport and storage
• a framework for future evaluation of models to support hydrogen production with CCUS
• the CCUS-specific risks inherent in first of a kind CCUS projects
• the possible delivery and coordination challenges of deploying CCUS at scale

This consultation will be of interest to CCUS stakeholders, including:

• investors and developers in potential CCUS projects
• the energy sector
• industry, including energy intensive industries

but any organisation or individual is welcome to respond.
